Once a cartridge is deployed, the device functions only as a contact stun gun until a replacement is loaded. Keeping a spare cartridge on hand — or a full 2-pack — means your device retains its full 15-foot projection capability at all times.

Expired cartridges past their 5-year date can still be used for aiming practice — firing at a target to build familiarity with probe deployment. Do not rely on expired cartridges for self-defense.

Are these cartridges compatible with the Pulse 2 and Bolt 2?

Yes — these cartridges are compatible with both the newer Pulse 2 and Bolt 2 models as well as the original Pulse, Bolt, Pulse+, and C2. Axon has maintained cartridge compatibility across the Pulse and Bolt series. If you have a Pulse 2 or Bolt 2 purchased recently, these are the correct replacement cartridges.

What are the anti-felon ID tags?

When a TASER cartridge fires, it releases 20–50 small serialized identification tags — sometimes called AFIDs — along with the probes. Each tag is printed with a unique serial number traceable to the specific cartridge. This allows law enforcement to identify the cartridge used at a scene and trace it back to the registered owner. The system is designed to discourage misuse and assist investigations when a TASER is deployed.
