Can this be used outdoors?

Excellent product! Trying to keep a mischievous teen IN the house, and it did the job! I did end up taping the battery compartment closed to prevent tampering, and it is only on our sliding glass door. If you’re looking for a window solution, a 4” screw worked for us! So easy to remove the key and put back again in the morning! Reasonable price too!! We got 4!

I bought several of these sensors in the hopes of alerting me if my teenager tried to leave the house while I was asleep, which is one of uses specifically listed. I found many problems with the sensors making them unusable for this purpose even with many work arounds. Most notably was that the adhesive was not strong enough to hold the sensors to the frame of the window, not even for a day. Several popped of during the night scarring is to death and those that didn't pop off during the night popped off the next day while we were out, alarmed all day causing the batteries to run out. The work around based on posts was to replace the adhesive with stronger options you purchase from your local hardware store. Done. This sensor seems like a good option as it uses a key to turn off the alarm and not an on/off switch but it also turns off when you shut the door or window so a kid could open it and shut it so quickly that before it registers what just happened, especially if you are sound a asleep, you think you are imaging it, it needs to continue sounding until YOU turn it off or at least longer that a brief second. Then there is the battery issue, it's too easy for the kids to take the batteries out, it's on the front of the unit and once removed they have easy access. The work around is to super glue the compartment but the down side is that you have to replace the whole unit when the battery runs out. That was something I was willing to accept so that's what I did, however, as noted above, I had two units fall off during the first day running the batteries down so I was down two units the first day. Not good. And last but not least. The kids can hack the sensor so easily by simply taping a magnet over the main unit letting them come and go as they please with no detection. None, nada. Bottom line.... alarm systems using any kind of magnet system is meant to deter people from getting in but will NOT keep people in. The only use I can see for these alarms is those needing a warning for handicap, seniors and/or children that won't understand how to disarm the system but an extra layer of security is needed the event they wonder off.

Teenage daughter figured out to remove batteries from the front of the alarm. The batteries shouldn't be easy to access. Should be on the back so if it is removed the alarm goes off. Not really good for keeping kids from sneaking out.
