The strobe mode is the most effective for self-defense disorientation — rapid flashing at this lumen output disrupts vision and balance faster than a steady beam. When using the high beam for defense, aim directly at the attacker's eyes from 5–15 feet. The effect is involuntary and temporary — pupil contraction causes immediate loss of clear vision giving you time to escape. Do not look directly into the beam.

How many lumens does it take to blind someone temporarily?

Temporary flash blindness begins at around 1000 lumens aimed directly at the eyes in low-light conditions. At 3000 lumens the effect is significantly stronger and works in daylight as well as darkness. The effect is similar to looking directly at a camera flash — the pupil contracts involuntarily causing temporary blindness and afterimages lasting several seconds to over a minute depending on conditions. No permanent eye damage results from a single brief exposure. The strobe mode compounds the effect by preventing the eyes from adjusting between flashes.

What is a CREE LED flashlight?

CREE is a US-based semiconductor manufacturer that produces high-output LED chips used in professional and tactical lighting. The P90 chip in this flashlight is a high-efficiency LED designed for maximum lumen output per watt — which is why CREE-branded flashlights consistently outperform generic LEDs at equivalent power levels. The 3000-lumen output from a 6-inch handheld flashlight is only possible with high-efficiency LED technology like the CREE P90.
