Window Alarm Types
Two sensor types cover different threat scenarios. Magnetic contact sensors are a two-piece system — one piece on the window frame, one on the sash — that sounds an alarm when the window opens. They detect entry after it happens. Vibration sensors detect glass tapping, tampering, or break attempts before an intruder fully enters — an earlier warning that gives you more response time. For ground-floor and basement windows, layering both types provides the most complete coverage: the vibration sensor catches the attempt, the contact sensor catches the entry.

The Window Vibration Alert mounts with adhesive directly to the glass and detects vibration from tapping, tampering, or breakage — adjustable sensitivity helps reduce false alarms from wind or passing traffic. The Door and Window Alarm and 90dB Window Door Sensors are magnetic contact pairs — both work on windows and doors and sound a 90dB alarm when the window opens. Using a vibration sensor and a contact sensor together on the same window covers both attempted break-in and successful entry.
Window Security Tips
Ground-floor and basement windows are the most common secondary entry points after doors — secure all accessible windows at minimum. Test alarm batteries monthly and replace annually. Physical window locks or blocking bars add mechanical resistance alongside the alarm — the alarm attracts attention, the lock slows entry. For complete entry point protection, pair window sensors with door security devices — doors and windows together cover the two most common residential entry points.
