Important Differences between Stun Gun and Taser

stun gun and taserAlthough stun guns and Tasers are effective for self-defense, there are several key differences between them that you should know.

You’re better able to protect yourself when you’re comfortable and knowledgeable with the type of self-defense product you’re using. If you are having a hard time choosing between a stun gun and a Taser, here are important things you should know about them.

Rate of Effectiveness
In this aspect, Tasers win hands down over stun guns. Tasers enjoy a 100% effectiveness rate. Even more surprisingly, they actually have better chances of incapacitating your attacker compared to what you’d get when using a 9mm gun and without risking taking anyone’s life.

This self defense product are fairly effective, too, but only on certain types of individuals. If your attacker happens to be high on drugs then he has a temporarily higher immunity rate to the effects of stun guns. Also, there are just a number of individuals who were born less vulnerable to the effects of this tool.

Voltage and Wattage
Stun guns can transmit anywhere between 200,000 to 1,000,000 volts and each blast utilizes 7 to 14 watts. Tasers release 50,000 volts but makes use of up to 18 watts.

At first glance, this product seem to be the better choice but if you want the most effective weapon then you should be aware that greater wattage packs a weightier punch than greater voltage.

Stun guns are designed to send jolts of electricity through nerve endings in your body. Taser does that and more by targeting the muscular skeletal system as well.

Contact
With stun guns, you have to risk getting close to your attacker because they can only work when they’re directly touching the skin of your attacker. With Tasers, however, you could launch a counter attack even at a distance. As long as you’re only fifteen to twenty-one feet away, you should be able to put your attacker out of action with a single blast.

Size
Stun guns are the better choice than Tasers if you want to have the element of surprise in your favor. Although the newer models of Tasers no longer resemble handguns and are more compact, they are still not as easy to conceal as stun guns, which can be as small as three inches in size! Even better, this item also come in a variety of disguises such as mobile phones and other commonly used items.

Price
Finally, for the more budget conscious person, stun guns are affordably priced below $100 while Tasers could cost you a few hundred dollars at the least.

Overall, choosing one or the other is fine as long as you feel safe with using it.

Why You Need a 4 in 1 Stun Gun

You need a stun gun to protect you when you have to walk or travel alone. The 4 in 1 stun gun will give you a zapper, flashlight, emergency lights, and alarm in one.

multi function stun gun

Are you constantly walking home late at night and going off alone? Are you sometimes getting the strange feeling that you are being stalked and watched? You can protect yourself by having your own cellular phone, but what if you get to a place that has no phone signal? You can also protect yourself with a pocket knife, but how far can one knife go when you are panicking? You might hurt yourself and cause even more damage.

To protect yourself, you will need a stronger tool. This is where the 4 in 1 stun gun comes in. The 4 in 1 stun gun has four major sub-tools: the stun gun itself, which delivers millions of volts in electric shock; a strong light emitting diode (LED) flashlight; emergency lights that will flash red even in the deep darkness; and a loud alarm. Many of today’s models of 4 in 1 stun guns will have rechargeable batteries, making them easy to charge and carry after. They will also have a disable pin wrist strap, which allows you to disable the mechanism if your attacker or assailant gets hold of the weapon. This way, you cannot be hurt. Another feature of today’s models has its own holster, so that you can easily locate and carry the stun gun.

Why do you need such a powerful tool? For one, you need a lot of volts to zap someone, and the stun gun can disable your attacker and give you a chance to run. This can be valuable if you walk through areas that are not heavily populated, since you may not have a place to run to immediately if you are being chased. You also need the bright LED flashlight, since this will help you to see in dark areas, such as parking lots, heavily wooded or grassy areas, or buildings that have lost power.

The warning lights and alarm will serve to call attention to you. The gun will have flashing warning lights which you can use to attract attention, especially if you are in a dark place and are looking for law enforcement officers. The siren and alarm are your emergency call, and you can draw more attention to yourself, especially at night, when people might not be awake to see the lights, but can be awakened by sound.

These are only a few uses of the 4 in 1 stun gun. For more information, talk to a security retailer.

Top 10 Non-Lethal Self Defense Products

stun gunSadly, it is not a “Leave it to Beaver World” and a time might come when you have to defend yourself. But as much as we love our guns though, Americans are not fond of the idea of blowing away a fellow countryman right on the street. At the same time, we can not just passively stand around and be robbed and raped. That is why we have embraced non-lethal forms of self defense. While the ancient martial arts are a great tool, the answer has been found in science with the development of new weapons. Most involve electricity or capsicum. Here are the top 10 non-lethal self defense products.

- The classic stun gun. Almost everyone is familiar with these and the sinister crackling noise and menacing electric arc they make. About the size of two large bars of soap, they can deliver charges up to 900,000 volt to disrupt the voluntary muscle system for around 10 minutes. Even an attacker that is drunk, high, or insane is not immune to it and, as scary as it is to get shocked by it, it is always non-lethal.

- Mini stun gun. With only slightly less power than its larger brother, it is still strong enough to “drop” an attacker yet small enough to fit into a pack of cigarettes. It is great for those who want to keep it in hand when going out to the car or walking down the street.

- Clandestine stun gun. The “cell phone” version is very similar to the mini but a bit larger. The “pen” version is about the size of a marker.

- Telescoping stun baton. Too big to really carry on the street but is great when walking in the woods or walking the dog. It can break up a dog fight while keeping your hands at a safe distance.

- Tazers. Also too big to carry but idea for home or car. It works on the same principal as the stun gun but buy firing darts with a wire back to the gun. It is a favorite of police because it can be used at a safe range.

- Classic mace/pepper spray. A compressed solution of capsicum that burns the eyes, mouth, throat and skin. Some of them come with ultraviolet dyes to help identify the attacker later.

- Clandestine mace/pepper spray. Similar to the clandestine stun guns but it has more options on shapes and size.

- Mace foam. This works the same basic way as the spray but cover the attacker face with the irritating foam. When the attacker tries to wipe it off to see it rubs it into the skin causing more burning. It is the size of larger mace sprays and can fire up to 10 feet.

- The mace gun. It looks like a small flare gun but fires 7 shots at a range of 25 feet, 3 times further than the sprays do.

- Personal alarms. These are small (keychain size) alarms that when activated put out a 130 db alarm. That’s as load as 8 100 db alarms going off at once. It is so loud it ca be heard at a ¼ mile. Some even have a flashing strobe to help identify its location.

So there they are, the top 10 non-lethal self defense weapons. Take responsibility for you safety and see if one is right for you.

Get Double the Damage With the Double Trouble Stun Gun

The Double Trouble Stun Gun provides twice the power of a stun gun. Make sure, however, you understand how it works!

Double Trouble Stun GunEveryone knows that a stun gun, when used effectively, can immediately disarm and even immobilize your attacker. But if you think that doesn’t offer you enough protection, how about having a self-defense weapon that’s akin to using two stun guns at the same time? Sounds wonderful? That’s exactly what you’ll get from the Double Trouble Stun Gun.

What to Get from the Double Trouble Stun Gun
To have a better idea of how this product can ensure your safety and help you fight off your attacker, you’ll need to understand how its essential features works.

Two Zaps at the Same Time
This product has two discharge points, situated at each end of its U-shaped structure. These dual discharge points allow you to release a dual slap at a single instance. Think of it as a combo punch that can knock your attacker out in half a second, given the perfect aim.

Rubber Coated Housing
This self defense product is designed to stay in your hand as long as necessary. Other self-defense weapons prove to be ineffective because they keep slipping past your hold. That, however, won’t happen with your Double Trouble Stun Gun thanks to its rubber-coated housing. Rubber, as we all know, provides us with a slip-proof texture for a tight, reliable grip.

Hand Straps
For better security, hand straps are also included with the Double Trouble Stun Gun. Make sure you use them, of course!

Battery-Powered
This product uses a pair of lithium batteries, which means you can enjoy longer life than what you would normally get from nickel metal hydride batteries. This would save you both time and money as it requires fewer replacements.

Safety Features
Stun guns are powerful, especially if they come with a 1.2 million voltage power like the Double Trouble Stun Gun, but also potentially dangerous to the user. Safety features are, therefore, quite necessary.

A carrying case to minimize the effects of accidental discharges and prevent accidental contact with discharge points is just the start. Safety switches and indicator lights must also be incorporated with its design. This device would not be activated unless the LED lights and safety switch are both on.

Understanding the Effects of Stun Guns
Using this product for half a second can cause slight pain and will definitely startle your attacker. Make it last a second or two more and that would cause mental confusion and muscle spasm. If it lasts three to five seconds, that would lead to mental disorientation and confusion. Now, with the Double Trouble Stun Gun, imagine having the effect doubled!

How To Use Multi Function Stun Gun

A multi function stun gun has high voltage but low ampere. This give you the means of delivering a powerful, immobilizing attack without causing serious harm.

multi function stun gunWhy settle for a basic stun gun when you don’t have to? When your life is in danger, you usually have a single chance alone to save yourself. Make the most out of that chance by protecting yourself with a multi function stun gun.

How Does the Multi Function Stun Gun Work?
There are two essential characteristics that make diversified function stun guns the most powerful but also the least lethal self-defense weapon you can use.

Firstly, it comes with high voltage power: a multi function gun releases 2.7 million volts per discharge. Just imagine what kind of jolt that could give to your assailant.

Secondly, a multi function stun gun also uses low ampere, which means there’d be no permanent or serious damage resulting from the release of electricity.

The Nature of Attack
The nervous system of your assailant is the primary target of the multi function stun gun. The release of electricity is backed by a high pulse frequency and causes an enormous amount of energy to hit the muscles of your ass

Once used, an enormous amount of energy blasts the muscles of your assailant. This causes the muscles to make fast, jerky, but uncontrolled and inefficient movements. All these movements cause the blood sugar in his body to fall alarmingly low because it’s being converted into lactic acid. Naturally, loss of blood sugar is equivalent to energy loss, and this causes your assailant to make slower and less coordinated attacks if he still chooses to pursue you.

That, however, is just one of the effects of the multi function stun gun. While all that is happening, neurological impulses that are responsible for directing muscle movement are also being attacked. Since no direction is forthcoming, your assailant will gradually lose his balance and become mentally confused and even passive.

The severity of the effect of using your multi function stun gun will depend on how long the prongs of the gun remain in contact with your assailant. A half-second contact only causes a twinge of pain.

One to two seconds’ contact will have your assailant confused and suffer uncontrollable muscle spasms. If that doesn’t seem enough, you can lengthen the duration of the contact to three to five seconds. With that kind of attack, your assailant will curl up in the ground, completely immobilized.

More Features from the Stun Multi Function Gun
This advanced stun gun also comes with a LED flashlight to help you better ward off an attack. There is also a pin wrist strap to provide you a more secure grip.

Mini Stun Gun – Enjoy the Protection of a Tiny but Powerful Bodyguard 24/7

Mini Stun GunMini stun guns used to be limited to low voltage power because their compact size only allow the use of a single battery. Thankfully, the emergence of lithium batteries today allows mini stun guns to have twice as much voltage power than before with the same, if not longer, battery power.

What to Look for in a Mini Stun Gun
Because mini stun guns are your weapon for self-defense, do not let price be a determining factor for you. Instead, look for a mini stun gun that you know will be able to effectively protect you in any circumstance.

Voltage Power
Generally speaking, more batteries mean more voltage power and, of course, longer life. But as mentioned earlier on, the use of lithium batteries has allowed mini stun guns to retain their size while increasing both their voltage and battery power.

Now, mini stun guns can release up to 1,000,000 volts in a single blast. Batteries may also be rechargeable and capable of blasting your attacker approximately one hundred times before running out of power.

Safety Button
Never buy any kind of stun gun without a safety button. This will prevent accidental activation and unintentionally injuring yourself or someone else, which is considered criminal by law. If you don’t want to risk being sued for negligence, buy stun guns with safety buttons.

Warranty
Lifetime warranty is best, but at the very least, look for a mini stun gun with a 1-year warranty.

Self-Defense Tips for Stun Gun Use
Stun guns may be powerful, but they won’t be able to protect you if you don’t know how to use them effectively.

Practice
Unlike pepper sprays, you don’t need to practice your aim because stun guns require physical contact with your attacker to work. What you do need to practice, however, is taking your stun gun out as quickly as possible and having the presence of mind to switch the safety button on before putting it to use. In most cases, you’ll have only one chance to hurt your attacker; make the most out of it!

Easy Access, Hidden Location
Place them inside your pockets at all times. They have to be somewhere you can easily and quickly reach for at times of need. Concealing them, however, is also ideal because it gives you the advantage of taking your attacker by surprise.

Nevertheless, if you already feel uneasy, listen to your guts and take your mini stun gun out. It’s better to be safe than sorry, as they say.

Know What to Target
Finally, know what you can and can’t target. The best points of contact are a person’s torso, particularly the upper shoulders, below the rib cage, and the upper hip. All these can effectively immobilize your attacker. Also, remember that while stun guns can work on clothing, it won’t be much of an attack if used on rubber clothing, which is not conducive to electricity.

What are Hot Shot Stun Guns: Features and Functions You Need to Know

When your life or property is in danger, most of the time you really have no other recourse than to fight back.  But for many, physical strength can only do so much and go so far, which is why there are numerous options for self-defense weapons.  One of these is the Hot Shot stun gun, a device that’s small enough to fit in a purse or a pocket but offers enough power to help prevent an attack and save your life.

stun master hot shotHot Shot stun gun is a product of Stun Master, a manufacturer specializing in self-defense gadgets that deliver electric shock when triggered or applied.  The Hot Shot is a small device that resembles a PDA, measuring at just 3.5″ x 2.5″ and is only an inch thick.  It’s called a Hot Shot because it provides one of the highest power ratings registered by stun guns at 975,000 volts.  The high output is meant to optimize the stun gun’s use during an emergency situation and more than makes up for its small size.

How the Hot Shot stun gun works
The stun gun is often mistaken for a Taser.  While their basic use is similar (they both deliver an electric shock to the target), they differ in the way they are used and how they function.  A Taser uses a wire and pins to penetrate the target to deliver the electric shock.  The wire through which electricity travels is connected to a triggering device that resembles a gun.

A stun gun, such as the Hot Shot stun gun, delivers a shock upon direct physical contact with the tip of the gun.  This device works well for close contact encounters and can be advantageous when an attacker is at arm’s length.  Unlike the Taser, the Hot Shot stun gun does not require careful aiming since it will deliver a shock regardless of the area that the tip comes in contact with.

Advantages of the Hot Shot stun gun
There are two very important ways that a Hot Shot stun gun can be an advantage during a potentially dangerous situation.  One: it can function as a tool to produce psychological intimidation on a would-be attacker.  The sight of a stun gun is a warning to any attacker that there is a high possibility that he/she can get hurt.  This can discourage them from advancing any further.

Two: in case the person does attack, the Hot Shot stun gun can deliver a high output electric shock at close range, effectively causing involuntary muscular contraction and pain on the target site.  The shock can also lead to temporary loss of muscle control, disorientation and even confusion.  These reactions are enough to incapacitate an attacker for several minutes.  The effects will wear away but by then, you would already have run away or asked for help.

What Is It About Rechargeable Stun Guns That Make Them So Effective?

Rechargeable Stun Gun FlashlightRechargeable stun guns used to be clunky, awkward pieces of self-defense equipment that were rather cumbersome to carry around because of their size and weight.  Over the years, though, they have improved remarkably well in design, size and function.  They have also become safer to operate and quite effective for self-defense purposes.  So just what is it about rechargeable stun guns that make them work so well as a tool for the prevention of crime?

The science behind rechargeable stun guns
Humans have adverse reaction to electricity, both physically and emotionally.  And with good reason.  Electricity produces a shock that leads to unpleasant feelings and involuntary reactions in people.  This type of effect is something that rechargeable stun guns make use of.

Each stun gun is built with a mechanism that can deliver electric shock when it comes in contact with the body of the attacker.  The shock leads to involuntary contractions in the muscles and a feeling of weakness.  A person can also experience difficulty in keeping his balance and may not have sufficient coordination to stand up, which explains why people shocked with stun guns fall down or collapse.

Do rechargeable stun guns cause long-term damage?
There are a lot of myths regarding the stun gun and this is just one of them.  Stun guns act on the particular muscle group that it comes in contact with, although their effects could be felt by the whole body.  This is often sufficient enough to cause pain and difficulty in moving.

The effects, however, are temporary.  Stun guns are not considered lethal weapons because they deliver a limited amount of current — although the voltage may seem terrifyingly high (up to 975,000 volts or more), the amperage is relatively low.  This limits the adverse effects of electricity to the muscles and avoids damaging important organs such as the heart, liver or kidneys.

Will a rechargeable stun gun work through fabric or clothing?
A rechargeable stun gun can deliver an electrical shock through clothing up to about half an inch thick.  This means that it can still work even if the attacker is wearing thick or tightly-woven clothing.

Why rechargeable?
Earlier types of stun guns derive their power from batteries.  Many of the stun guns being sold today still use batteries, although some consumers prefer rechargeable stun guns because they do away with the hassle of replacing old batteries with fresh ones.

Rechargeable stun guns are much more convenient because they only need to be plugged to a source of electricity for a few minutes and they can be used again multiple times.

What is a Runt Stun Gun and Could You Use One?

People who are looking for a reliable and effective self-defense weapon often pick the stun gun for its power to incapacitate an attacker.  Stun guns have been proven excellent as tools for stopping an attacker at close contact.  It could disable an assailant — ironically enough — safely, without causing permanent body harm, which is one of the main reasons stun guns are allowed for use even by civilians.  Stun guns have improved over the years and now come in a variety of designs and models.  One of these is the runt stun gun — handy, easy to conceal yet capable of packing enough wallop to keep attackers at bay.

Runt Stun Gun

What is a runt stun gun?
A runt stun gun is a small-sized stun gun — hence the nickname.  It is slightly shorter and thinner than a regular stun gun but is still capable of producing high-voltage shock.  In fact, there are runt stun guns that could generate as much as 950,000 volts — that’s 900,000 more power than some regularly-sized stun guns can offer.

So just how small is a runt?  Some models are just a little over 3″ high — small enough to fit in the palm of the hand and tiny enough to resemble an old-model beeper or even a thick business card holder.

Does it work?
The runt stun gun has the same design and functionality as a traditional stun gun — that is, it’s designed to deliver a shock upon contact once the trigger is pressed.  Its only difference is its size.  The shock from the runt stun gun penetrates the skin and affects the muscle, causing pain and discomfort.  The shock also leads to energy loss, which explains why a person who gets stunned will have some difficulty moving initially.  In some cases, the stunned person may even experience loss of coordination and balance.

The effects of a stun gun generally depends on certain factors, such as the power or voltage of the gun, the individual’s size, body mass and emotional or physical condition.  Runt stun guns also rely on battery power in order to work, so it’s important that a unit always has a fresh pair of batteries to remain reliable.

Who can make use of a runt stun gun?
The runt stun gun is an excellent choice for people who prefer a handy device that’s lightweight, easy to carry and unobtrusive enough to conceal in a regular purse or pocket.  It’s a practical choice for any man or woman who wants a fast-acting, effective yet safe way to defend themselves.

What to look for in a runt stun gun
When buying a runt stun gun, consider the range of power (usually expressed in voltage/volts) it comes with.  Most of the models you’ll find today can range from a low 350,000 volts to a high of 950,000 volts.  There are also models that come in all three voltages, allowing the user to switch from a low voltage to a higher voltage at the flick of a switch.

Different Varieties of Stun Gun Voltages

The stun gun is one of the most powerful and effective tools for self-defense.  Handy, simple in design and straightforward to use, stun guns are preferred in many instances for deferring an attack or controlling unruly and dangerous behavior because it delivers fast, efficient results.  Stun guns come in a variety of power, usually expressed in voltages.  The number indicated as the voltage of the stun gun is an indication of its power, something that every buyer should be aware about.

What different varieties of stun gun voltages to expect
Stun guns come in different power indications, but they usually range from about 20,000 volts to 150,000 volts.  Newer models often have higher voltages, which could translate to better stopping power.  There are even stun gun models being sold with an advertised voltage of 1 million volts.  But how effective are these?

If the million voltage stun gun seems terrifying, it’s because humans generally have an adverse reaction to electricity and we know that higher voltages also equals more pain.  But should you choose a stun gun with a voltage of 900,000 over one that ‘only’ has 50,000?  That really depends on what you need and the type of reaction you want to produce.

In general, stun guns with 20,000 to 50,000 voltages are considered standard.  Most of these are dart-firing tasers that some users prefer because they can be utilized from farther away.  The darts they fire also come in direct contact with the body of the assailant, allowing the electricity to affect more skeletal muscles.  They are also chosen because they tend not to affect the heart, avoiding any life-threatening health issue.  Dart-firing tasers are also effective in knocking the assailant off.  These are very efficient for immobilizing the target.

Stun guns with high voltages are intended for close encounters.  They are designed to shock by contracting the muscles and causing pain.  However, they may not be that effective in knocking the assailant to the ground.  They are, however, quite efficient at producing shock that will cause enough pain and discomfort in order to discourage a physical attack.

Just how powerful is a particular stun gun voltage?
If you’ve ever experienced the discomfort of static electricity, such as when you rub your shoes against a synthetic rug and proceed to touch door knob, then you could safely say that you’ve been shocked with about 20,000 to 30,000 volts of electricity.  You could probably say that you know what that type of voltage feels like for an assailant against whom you’ll be using the stun gun.

What you should watch out for is the amperage or amps.  Stun guns usually have a high-voltage, low-amperage power arrangement to keep them on the safe side.  If the gun comes in a higher amperage, be very wary because you could cause serious, unnecessary damage.
