Wireless Home Security Alarms-Motion Alert Alarm

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

Wireless home alarms are the most popular home security devices because they are reliable and they are inexpensive. This Motion Detector Alarm is a good example.

It has a passive infrared system that detects motion in any selected area. Once motion is detected a 105 dB alarm sounds. For business owners, you can use it to announce customers in your store while you’re not out front. Or you can use it to protect a secure area in your store-a two-tone chime sounds instead of the alarm. The alarm can be programmed to sound for 30, 60 or 90 seconds, depending on your setting. There is also a program re-entry delay that can be utilized to allow you time to disarm the system once you enter your home or business. It has a programmable security code and a panic button for immediate sound.

It works up to 40 feet away and protects a 110° radius.

Protect Appliances with Your UV Invisible Ink Pen

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Even with the best security measures, you can never truly know when or how your appliances at home or work may be stolen. As such, it’s best to pre-empt successful break-ins and burglaries by leaving unique, distinguishable marks on your property. Identifying those marks can serve as proof the recovered item is truly yours. Consider using, for instance, a UV invisible ink pen.

Invisible Ink Pen2How a UV Invisible Ink Pen Works
In terms of appearance, a UV invisible ink pen is no different from any other ordinary pen you see being used everyday. It’s when you start using them to write that you’ll realize they’re different.

Special compounds are used to create so-called invisible ink. They are not, however, completely invisible. If you shine a UV or back light on them, the ink will show up. If you use it to write on a black surface, your writing shall show up as well.

Safeguard Your Appliances with Invisible Ink Pens
Use invisible ink pens to create unique and identifiable marks that no one will be able to guess at and completely prove your ownership of any stolen and consequently recovered appliances.

Name
Naturally, writing your name on the appliance is the first way to prove your identity.

Purchase Details
Secondly, write where and when you bought the item. If you have an OR (official receipt) number, include that as well. This is very important because thieves are unlikely to provide the same information about the stolen appliance if and when recovered. If you still have the OR then you can give that as proof of your claim. If not, the police can simply verify the data you have written on the appliance and with that, your ownership will be proven.

Unique and Secret Mark
Think of a word, number, or symbol that no one can guess at. That will serve as another identifying mark for your appliance. It can be the date of the first time you met your spouse, your favorite fictional character, or a drawing of your favorite animal.

Record Everything You Have Written
For additional proof in case the item has been stolen, copy everything you have written to a notebook.

Make It a Regular Routine
Do not delay identifying every newly purchased appliance with your invisible writing. Make sure, however, that you do not do it in view of others. It’s best to keep things secret as much as possible.

Refill Invisible Ink Pen Regularly
Last but not the least, make sure you refill your invisible ink pen regularly! It will be bad if you don’t get to properly identify your appliances immediately.

Anti-Terrorism Protection from Airport Security and Metal Detectors

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

metal_detectorTerrorism isn’t an easy thing to combat especially in crowded places like airports. Thankfully, advances in technology help minimize the chances of terrorists slipping past security checks. Read on to know the various preventive measures airport security takes to protect its passengers.

How Terminal Metal Detectors Work
Every passenger must pass through the terminal before entering the airport. Posted at this area are several metal detectors that people have to go through as well for a thorough but hands free inspection of their person.

The Use of PI Technology
PI or pulse induction takes the form of coiled wire attached at one side of the arch. This serves as both transmitter and receiver for the metal detector. PI technology is responsible for sending brief but highly powerful pulses through the wire. Every generated pulse creates a magnetic field that will last only for a very short while before suddenly collapse. Another current will pass through the wire, and this is referred to as the reflected pulse. Its appearance is even briefer, lasting no more than thirty microseconds.

This cycle will continue for as long as the metal detector is used. 100 pulses per second are sent on average, but its range is anywhere from 25 to more than a thousand pulses per second, depending on the type of metal detector used.

Detecting the Presence of Metal
When the presence of metal is detected, a reverse magnetic field is created and one that will produce a longer-lasting reflected current. Incorporated in a metal detector is a sampling circuit that is capable of gauging the length of reflected pulses. It will determine if the reflected pulse lasts longer than usual and if it does then it is likely that the presence of metal has been detected.

Relaying the Presence of Metal
Now that the sampling circuit has determined the possible presence of metal, it will then send its analysis to the integrator. This device amplifies and converts the signals into DC (direct current), which is connected to yet another device, the audio circuit. This last device is responsible for emitting that loud beeping sound you hear when the presence of metal has been detected.

Airport security officials will now request the individual in question to remove any metal object he has in his possession. Once all those items have been removed, he will then be asked to pass through the metal detector once more. If the metal detector continues to beep, the airport security official will use a handheld detector this time. The handheld detector shall trace the length of the individual to isolate the source.

Your possessions are also subjected to a similar inspection as they pass through an X-ray machine. It may seem a tedious process, but as most devices used for terrorist attacks are made of metal, it does contribute a lot to your safety while you spend time at the airport.

Protect Your Home and Office from Theft with Invisible Ink Marker

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Invisible Ink PenInvisible ink markers are the one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your property at home and the office. And because they leave indelible marks, retrieval of lost and stolen property can be accomplished easily by finding items with corresponding markings.

How Invisible ink Markers Work
Invisible ink markers work just like any other pen in the sense that they essentially enable you to write. There are, however, key differences with how its writing turns out and what it’s used for.

Invisible
Their writing or marking will appear invisible under normal light. These markers use fluorescent ink, and its respective writing will only show up under black or ultraviolet light.

When you first apply an invisible ink marker to any surface, the imprint of your writing will still be fairly visible due to its wetness. But once the ink dries up, your writing then becomes invisible unless you shine the aforementioned types of light directly on it.

Undeletable
Unlike normal ink, fluorescent ink is very much difficult to get rid of. It’s not something you can delete just by rubbing it off. Washing it away won’t work either. Once applied to any surface, the markings are there to stay, a secure and constant label for valuable home and office property and equipment.

Compatible with Different Surfaces
Invisible ink markers are rarely choosy when it comes to the different surfaces they’re able to work on. Whether it’s glass, plastic, wood, metal, or a painted surface, invisible ink markers will do their job and leave the necessary writing on your things.

No Stains and Taints
If you accidentally smudge your skin with your invisible ink marker, you don’t have to worry. Invisible ink markers have no known serious side effects and its markings will disappear in a few seconds upon application.

How to Enjoy Maximize Use of Invisible Ink Markers
Here are several tips to increase your home and office safety with the use of invisible ink markers.

Have a UV flashlight with you
Use it to see what you’re writing and double check your work.

Use unique markings for property identification.
This way, not even your closest friends will be able to guess the kind of markings you’ve used to identify your own property.

Be consistent
Last but not the least, do protect anything and everything that deserves your protection. Use them to mark what you own and ensure that they stay your own as well.

Mistakes to Avoid When Using a Motion Detector Alarm

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

The motion detector alarm is a favorite home and business security gadget because it is effective, unobtrusive and convenient to use.  The system is equipped with a motion detector or sensor that is connected to an alarm system that may either sound a loud warning to alert the occupants regarding an intrusion or send an alert signal to a third party to inform them of a possible burglary.  If you have plans of using a motion detector alarm for your home or business, here are the most common mistakes you should avoid making:

It’s all about location, location, location
Place the motion detector alarm system in an area where it is needed most.  For example, if the frontyard or that small space between the garage and the fence is especially vulnerable to an unwanted visitor, you might want to consider placing the alarm system there.

Do not place the motion detector alarm in an area even if it may not be vulnerable just for convenience.  If there is no power outlet in the area where you want it placed, install one and don’t simply place the system somewhere else because you don’t want to be bothered with providing a power source.

Turn off the alarm if not needed
The motion detector alarm sends out a pattern of light within a specific area.  Anyone or anything that blocks this pattern disrupts it, which prompts the system to switch on an alarm.  This alarm can either be audible or silent.  If it’s audible, it will immediately send out a loud noise to alert those concerned regarding a possible burglary.  If it is silent, it will send out an alert to a third party who will then confirm with the home or business owner before alerting the police.

Either way, it could cause some inconvenience and unnecessary confusion in case the alarm is triggered accidentally.  To avoid making this mistake, turn on the alarm only when you need an area monitored.  If security risk is low, such as during daytime when there are family members present or when security personnel are available, you might consider disarming the system, at least temporarily.  You can turn it on again during hours when the area is at its most vulnerable.

Inform other people regarding your system
There is no reason at all for any home or business owner to inform people that they have installed a motion detector alarm.  It’s like making an announcement regarding the correct combination on your lock.  Of course, this is considered acceptable if only to inform other people of the security measures that are in place to prevent them from accidentally triggering the alarm.

However, it pays to be prudent regarding your home’s security alarm system.  The less people you tell regarding it, the better it is for you.  Remember that a thief forewarned is a thief forearmed.  It is quite possible for an experienced burglar to locate your motion detector alarm system (thanks to you), disarm it and enter your premises.
