All across the country police departments are joining the Taser revolution. Over 12,000 law enforcement agencies carry and use tasers with more starting every day. When a department makes a decision to use tasers their officers must undergo training. Part of that training is they are subjected to a shot from a taser so they can get a feel for what it’s like.

Another part of the training is learning the ‘use of force policies that include general orders that “clearly and strictly” identify how and when a Taser should be used. Officers are also being trained on the documentation they will have to fill out if they use a Taser.’

You can read the whole story HERE.

Similar trainings are usually at least partially open to the public so they can learn how effective tasers are.

The most popular civilian version of the taser is the C 2 Taser that was specifically developed for use by women. It is considerably smaller than law enforcement models but it does the same thing-shooting out two electrified darts to immobilize a target.

In Portland, Oregon recently a man was seen acting suspiciously in a Macy’s department store. The loss prevention of sure the store approached the man outside the store and asked him to return to the store with the stolen goods that he had. The man got into a confrontation with the loss prevention officer and another store employee. Police were called and they saw the suspect in a fight with the two store employees. When he failed to comply with police directives they subdued him with a taser. The whole story is told HERE.

The Advanced Taser is similar to ones used by law enforcement but only has range of 15 feet. It shoots out two electrified darts that will penetrate an inch of clothing. The electrical charge will incapacitate assailants with amazing stopping power-more than a 9 mm handgun.

You must be able to pass a background check before the taser can be activated.

Here is another story about a neighborhood that is being ravaged by home invasions. Not only does it put neighbors on the edge but it gives the neighborhood a bad reputation. You can read the whole story <a href=http://washingtonexaminer.com/local/crime-punishment/2012/01/home-invasions-rattle-md-neighborhoods/2095486"> HERE. This scene is repeated almost on a daily basis throughout the country in different cities.

There are two things that can be done to prevent home invasions. The point of entry is almost always the front door. Do not open your front door reflexively when someone knocks. Make sure you know who is there before you let anyone in. And secondly if somebody does get in that means you harm have some self defense products around the house.

I would recommend the new Wildfire Pepper Gel in a couple of locations throughout the house. Pepper gel has a better range than normal sprays and is more reliable in aim because it is thicker.

Check out all of our other Wildfire Pepper Sprays.

Like all self defense products, stun devices, a.k.a. the stun guns, are meant to disable an assailant for short period of time, allowing you the opportunity to escape a dangerous situation and get help. Stun devices disable an assailant by causing his muscles to work very rapidly in a short period of time similar to running a marathon.

This overworking of the body depletes it of all blood sugars that are needed for energy so the assailant has no energy left. The more powerful the stun device the quicker that it can work. The “Runt” stun gun and the “Hot Shot” are both very powerful at 4.5 million volts.

The two that I like the best are the “Pretender” stun gun and the “Immobilizer”. The reason I like them is because they are both disguised as cell phone stun guns which gives you the added advantage of surprise an attack.

The Pretender Stun Gun is 4.5 million volts and has two levels of safety built-in.

The Immobilizer Stun Gun is 5 million volts one of our most powerful stun guns.

By popular request we’re going to do a couple of blog postings to bring you up-to-date on which self defense products that are our most popular.

Number three is the Pretender Stun Gun. It looks just like a camera cell phone but is a powerful 4.5 million volt stun gun. It has a built-in 12 LED flashlight and has two levels of safety built-in to prevent accidental discharge. It also has a lifetime warranty which gives you an idea of the quality of the product to begin with.

Coming in at number four is the Blowgun. This may surprise a lot of people but a blowgun is a fun way to play. I think it’s more fun than darts and more challenging.

Blowguns have been around for over 40,000 years as one of the first weapons ever used. They are crude in a way but very accurate. Each of our blowguns comes with target darts, a mouthpiece, muzzle guard, foam grip and a dart quiver. They can shoot target darts, stun darts and paintballs. The longer the blowgun the faster and further it will go. They come in sizes of 18, 24, 36, 48 and 60 inch lengths.

The next most popular item that we sell is a package of 100 target darts that goes with the blowgun. They are sharpened wire darts with a .40 caliber end.

We will talk about the rest of the list in the coming days but in the meantime, check out our Top 10 Best-Selling Products

We carry a lot of non-traditional weapons on our website for self-defense purposes. We carry tonfa clubs, SAP gloves and Kubotans. SAP gloves are steel filled gloves that you wear on your hands that pack as powerful a punch as you can ever experience. Law enforcement officials have been using them for years, but now you can get them.

But today were talking about Telescopic Steel Batons that come in lengths of 16, 21 or 26 inches once opened. They open at the flick of a wrist and close simply by tapping at an angle and then hit straight down on a hard surface.

If you’ve ever accidentally bumped your shin on a bed post, for example, you know the excruciating pain it can inflict. These are stainless steel batons that have the capability of breaking a bone.

It is highly recommend that you get some professional training on the use of these weapons to maximize their effectiveness.

Check all of our other Nontraditional Weapons to see if one of them isn’t what you’re looking for.

When shopping for pepper spray products, you usually take into account factors like pepper spray pattern, price, and size. Definitely, those are important but you also have one more thing to consider, and that’s the heat rating of your pepper spray product.

More Heat Equals Longer Effects
That’s basically what greater heat levels can contribute to your personal safety. The effects of pepper spray are inflammatory by nature. This means that affected areas will immediately sting. If it hits your eyes, they’ll close in reflex to prevent further harm. That means staying partially or completely blind for a certain period of time.

If your respiratory system is affected and you inhale enough capsaicin, you’ll start coughing and choking and experience nausea. Your nose could also start to run as mucus is produced as another reflex response to the presence of capsaicin.

The effects don’t stop there. If you try to rub it away, you will only succeed in having the inflammation spread to other areas. That means more parts of your face will hurt.

How long all these lasts will, as we’ve said earlier, depend on how much capsaicin a pepper spray product has. On average, pepper spray effects last twenty to forty-five minutes. You have two ways to determine a product’s heat rating. First, there’s the easy way – just check out the product label and the perentage of Oleoresin Capsicum or OC indicated.

The typical pepper spray product uses a 10% OC solution. This is equivalent to 2,000,000 SHU – but we’ll talk about that later. Others have 18 and 20% OC content and are consequently more effective to use against your attacker.

Understanding How SHU Works
SHU stands for Scoville Heat Units and used for the Scoville Scale, a measurement system devised by American chemist Wilbur Scovile for gauging the heat levels of pepper. More specifically, it measures the amount of capsaicin in a given pepper or pepper spray product.

Peppers you see often used for cooking spicy dishes can have SHU ratings anywhere from zero (sweet bell pepper) to 8,000. The more exotic dishes may have peppers spicy enough to register with more than a million SHU.

And with pepper spray products, there are those that have excessively high capsaicin content to score 16,000,000 SHU in the Scoville Scale. You can just imagine how hot that can be!

Be More Effective
Having a pepper spray product with a high heat rating is good, but it can be better if you combine with a triple action attack: there are self-defense weapons that combine a pepper spray, tear gas, and UV dye marker all into one.

Pepper spray products are great for self-defense because they’re easy and effective to use. In fact, they’re so easy to use that many a person ends up accidentally spraying someone…or themselves.

If a person has been accidentally hurt with pepper spray, here are several things you can do to apply first aid.

No One Panics
Pepper spray may not be harmful but it certainly won’t feel like it to the victim. Pepper spray has an intensely painful effect and it’s likely to cause the victim to panic and then make you panic as well!

Don’t let that happen. You, most especially, must stay calm for the victim’s sake because you’ll be able to move more efficiently when your brain isn’t clouded with hysterics.

Have Someone Call 911
It’s better to be safe than sorry. There have been unconfirmed reports that pepper spray has been the cause of death due to severe allergic reactions. Why risk that when you don’t have to? Have someone call 911 even as you work on giving the victim first aid.

No Rubbing!
Tie the victim’s hands and bind her to a chair so that the contaminated area remains undisturbed. Rubbing the affected area clean of pepper spray won’t put a stop to the pain. It’s only going to make it worse.

Remember: pepper spray is an inflammatory agent. When you try to rub the skin clean of it, you’re only serving to spread the inflammation, which means that more capillaries in the victim’s skin will be subject to the effects of pepper spray.

Apply Antidote
If you happen to have an OC decontamination treatment product with you then apply that directly to the exposed area. If not that then what about milk? Dip a clean towel in milk then gently place it on the affected area.

No milk available? Then use lots and lots of water. Any of that could help with the initial sting but because pepper spray is oil-based, you’ll need to do a lot more. Mix cold water with soap that’s NOT oil-based. Some suggest the use of detergents (again not oil based) so you could try that, too.

Next, dip yourself into the water several times. Afterwards, dip a towel into the same mixture and use it to very gently rub your face clean of the oil. Expect this to hurt so don’t panic if the victim starts reacting again.

From here, you’ll just have to wait. The victim could start feeling better in fifteen to forty-five minutes. If the eyes have been contaminated and the victim is wearing contacts, be sure to have those disposed as early as possible. They’re not worth using after this.
