Here’s a story that was in USA Today recently about how domestic violence has increased nationwide because of the economy. Law enforcement officials feel that this places more stress on a relationship because of economic hardships.
A law enforcement official was quoted as saying “When stresses in the home increase because of unemployment and other hardships, domestic violence increases,” Thomson said. “We see it on the street.”
You can read the rest of the story HERE.

In Philadelphia last week burglars broke into a home when the occupants were there, a.k.a. home invasion. When the police responded to a call regarding the matter, they found an inordinate amount of marijuana. It seems the homeowner was dealing drugs to local university students.
You can read the whole story HERE.
More often than not home invasions are much more than just bad guys breaking into a home if there’s usually some other ulterior motive involved. Like drugs.
Be that as it may, there are a few things you can do to prevent a home invasion. The first is to always use your peephole to make sure you know who is at your front door before you let them in.
If the bad guys do happen to get in, of the best things you can do to get them out (assuming they are unarmed) is to give them a shot in the face with one of the great Mace Pepper Sprays. There is a good variety of sizes and prices to choose from.

Here’s a story about a woman who was sexually assaulted at Delta College in Stockton, California recently. She was able to get away on her own but police are still looking for the assailant.
You can read the whole story HERE.
Sexual assaults on college campuses are much more common than you think. Whenever I see this I often wonder why college-age women especially, or women in general don’t carry some self defense products.
One of the best self defense products women in carry is the Wildfire Key Chain Spray that fits right on your key chain so it is handy in all cases. It has an 18% concentration of oleoresin capsicum instead of the usual 10% that most pepper sprays have so it’s almost twice as potent.
Please check out all of our other Wildfire Sprays. One of them might be just right for you.

This is a sad story about how a pit bull attacked a much smaller dog killed it. Then the pit bull went after the owner of the dog and chewed on her hand for a while and looks like bit off one of her fingers.
You can read the rest of the story HERE.
The story goes on to say how sad both owners felt that this event happened and it could’ve happened to anyone. It also mentions that dogs have a huge prey instinct and that they are liable to attack smaller animals at any time. But it doesn’t mention is that dogs can attack anyone anytime.
The Ultra Sonic Dog Chaser is one of the best defenses against dog bites and dog attacks. It sends out an ultrasonic sound that repels dogs up to 20 feet away. The sound cannot be heard by humans and won’t bother neighbors.

Here is an astonishing story about an 80-year-old woman who was assaulted in her own home by a trusted home care health worker. The victim’s daughter suspected something was going on so she installed a hidden camera in her mother’s bedroom.
You can read the whole story HERE.
The healthcare worker was sentenced to 18 months in jail which doesn’t seem like a lot for beating up on a helpless Alzheimer’s patient.
If you suspect any abuse of your loved ones in either a home healthcare situation or a nursing home you should try one of our hidden cameras. The Wall Clock Spy Camera is one of the most effective. You can place it anywhere in a bedroom and it will catch activity in the whole room with the motion activated recording. It records to an 8 GB SD for easy retrieval and viewing.

Here’s a story about a big 400 pound bear that had been roaming around neighborhoods for three weeks eating trash out of garbage cans. The bear was finally shot with a tranquilizer dart and removed to a safer habitat.
You can read the whole story HERE.
It is not uncommon for bears to wander down out of mountainous regions into neighborhoods looking for food, especially in spring time after they come out of hibernation or in the fall before they go into hibernation.
What would you do if you had that big bear in your backyard?
We have always recommend people carry Bear Spray when they go into the back country for hunting, camping, hiking or fishing. It just makes common sense to have that valuable self-defense product with you. But people who live in areas adjacent to mountains also know the dangers of having a bear roaming around. For that reason it makes sense to have some bear spray available just in case. On more than one occasion bears have tried to get into homes. That could actually ruin your day.

Here’s an article that addresses the issue of home burglaries and how they are greatly reduced by using home alarms and home security systems.
You can read the rest of the story HERE
We have several Wireless Home Alarms that actually do two things. If someone does break into your house it acts as a burglar alarm scaring the burglar away. Secondly, it alerts neighbors and passersby that there’s a potential problem going on in your home. Most burglar alarms are at least 100 to 105 dB and more, which is plenty loud to alert your neighbors.
The 105 db Motion Detector Alarm is one of the most effective burglar alarms we have. It operates at 110° field of view up to 40 feet away. If motion is detected in that area the alarm goes off.

Here’s a story written by Mark Smith who takes a contrarian view of the dangers of black bears in Nevada. He makes a point that no one was fatally injured by a black bear attack in 2011 in the state of Nevada.
You can read the rest of the story HERE.
Mr. Smith is writing about the state of Nevada, which is sparsely populated to begin with so the chances of a bear encounter are minimized right off the bat. I agree with him one point-if bears are left alone they are not a danger. If there’s food or young cubs involved that’s another story.
However, we have always suggested that anybody that goes into the back country always carry some Bear Pepper Spray. You never know when you’re in the wilderness when you may encounter a black bear. Isn’t it better to be safe than sorry? Every year, hundreds and thousands of people encounter bears in the wild. Most and peacefully. Do you really want to take a chance?
