Here’s a story about some home security tips offered by the police department in a central New Jersey area. They include all the basic home security tips that you can read anywhere so this will serve as a reminder.
Lock all your doors and windows even when you’re at home.
Remove shrubs from around lower-level blows doors and windows
Don’t leave a ladder around. The bad guys can use it to get access to a second story window.
You can read the rest of the story HERE to get more good ideas.
One thing they don’t cover is ideas for security for people who live in apartments or for people who travel. One of the best things you can do for apartment living or for room security when you travel is to get the Door Stop Alarm.
It is the perfect security tool for people who live in apartments or for people who travel a lot and stay in hotel rooms. You wedge it underneath a door and it acts as a door stop. If someone tries to force the door open it activates an alarm that is loud enough to wake you if you’re asleep. But it certainly will scare the bad guys away.

 Mace Pepper Gel
Here is a story about a man and his family who were victims of a home invasion. He got attacked by the home invaders and got hit in his forehead from a machete, of all things. You can watch the whole story HEREwith the short YouTube video.
There are two morals to the story. First, if at all possible, do not let the home invasions happen. And second if it does happen it is almost always a bad outcome from the violence involved.
The old expression “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” is certainly applicable here.
The best way to prevent a home invasion in the first place is to always use your peephole in your front door. Find out who is there before you reflexively open your front door (like I do). It is a bad habit to get into. Once a home invader has an inch of a door opening he will force his way in. And trust me in 99% of the cases of a home invasion there is violence involved. You don’t want to be part of that.
If the home invaders do get in, make sure that you have some self defense products around the house in more than one location. In my opinion the best one to have around the house is Mace pepper gel. Then I would recommend having a stun gun. One of the smallest and most effective stun guns is the hot shot stun gun. That way if the bad guys do get in, at least you have a chance of defending yourself.

I remember back when I was a youngster about 100 years ago, my parents always used to hide a spare house key underneath a flowerpot on the front porch. I guess that was better than putting it underneath the doormat-everyone did that! But it was a much better.

When burglars do their thing and get into your house statistics show that they spend 6 minutes or less on average looking for things that they can easily sell or convert into cash in a pawn shop. They look for things that are easy to carry and are very marketable. Items such as jewelry come to mind.
So where do you hide your valuables to prevent them from being taken in a home burglary?
The best place to hide them is, as they say, in “plain sight.”
That’s why diversion safes have become so popular. They are ordinary looking products that have hollowed out interiors. The containers are relatively small, but big enough to hide cash, jewelry, keys and some other valuables.
This Chips Diversion Safe is a good example.
Check out all of our other Diversion Safes to see if one isn’t good for you. We have nearly 20 to choose from.

 Voice Alert System
Most home security systems work on the inside of a house the Voice Alert System works differently. It uses a passive infrared motion detector, a base unit and transmitters to detect motion in a large area outside up to 1000 feet in open space and 300 feet through walls.
You can have as many as six zones, each protected by its own sensor. You can record a message for each zone announcing that someone is in the driveway, someone’s at the pool or someone’s in the backyard, for example. The sensors are weatherproof, easy to install and because they’re wireless you can put them anywhere.
The voice alert system is great for home security as well as business security-monitoring secured areas like warehouse space or outdoor storage space.

Wireless home alarms are the most popular home security devices because they are reliable and they are inexpensive. This Motion Detector Alarm is a good example.
It has a passive infrared system that detects motion in any selected area. Once motion is detected a 105 dB alarm sounds. For business owners, you can use it to announce customers in your store while you’re not out front. Or you can use it to protect a secure area in your store-a two-tone chime sounds instead of the alarm. The alarm can be programmed to sound for 30, 60 or 90 seconds, depending on your setting. There is also a program re-entry delay that can be utilized to allow you time to disarm the system once you enter your home or business. It has a programmable security code and a panic button for immediate sound.
It works up to 40 feet away and protects a 110° radius.
