Wireless Home Security Alarms-Motion Alert Alarm

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

Wireless home alarms are the most popular home security devices because they are reliable and they are inexpensive. This Motion Detector Alarm is a good example.

It has a passive infrared system that detects motion in any selected area. Once motion is detected a 105 dB alarm sounds. For business owners, you can use it to announce customers in your store while you’re not out front. Or you can use it to protect a secure area in your store-a two-tone chime sounds instead of the alarm. The alarm can be programmed to sound for 30, 60 or 90 seconds, depending on your setting. There is also a program re-entry delay that can be utilized to allow you time to disarm the system once you enter your home or business. It has a programmable security code and a panic button for immediate sound.

It works up to 40 feet away and protects a 110° radius.

Multi-function Alarms – Why You Need One

Multifunction Alarms

A multifunction alarm can help you alert yourself or others to theft or aggressors. Such an alarm can have tools such as a flashlight, sound alarm, or smoke detector.

One of the ways to keep yourself safe and secure is through having your own personal alarm system. It can be useful if you frequently walk home or travel home alone. You might also need this security system if you leave your house or property unattended for long periods of time. There are many ways for you to get into trouble, whether you are standing still in one place or moving from one place to another. You need to find the best ways to keep yourself safe, and one way is to get yourself a multifunction alarm.

A multifunction personal alarm comes in many shapes, sizes, and models, and it may include a variety of tools. One of them is a flashlight. A flashlight is not only useful for you to get around in the dark: it can also be used as a signaling device because of its special LED. With its help, you can signal to people far away that you are in trouble and is in need of assistance. Sometimes, this flashlight may be replaced by a strobe or a laser pointer-like LED device.

This multipurpose tool also comes with its own sound alarm. This emits a high decibel beep when you are attacked.

It can alert people in the vicinity that you are being attacked. This can be useful if you are working at night or walking around in an area where there are not too many people or whom are sleeping. You can always wake them up with a loud sound, but you might not be able to catch their attention by simply turning your flashlight on.

There are also multifunction alarms that might be helpful for frequent travelers. They usually have trigger pins that sets off an alarm when they are released. You can attach this type of alarm to your bag to avoid theft. This alarm system is usually equipped with a nifty smoke detector, which you can carry to places that do not have smoke detectors, such as hotels in secluded areas. This can protect you from succumbing to suffocation from a fire.

Other multifunction alarms mighy come with additional safety tools, such as a small knife or mace, which you can also use to protect yourself. As technology becomes more modernized, more alarm models will be available. For more information on multifunction alarms and how you can get one that will suit your needs, talk to your security items retailer or to a security.

The Best Wall Outlet Plug Cam Uses

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Wall Outlet Plug CamYour wall outlet plug cam can be used in places where you want to monitor behavior or property without being obvious. This may include your factory, office, home, or even lab and museum.

If you are hoping to keep your house or office safe, then you will need to employ many different methods in order to do so. You can put people on patrol, install alarm devices, or you can install hidden cameras. One such type is a wall outlet plug, which allows you to place a camera directly in an electrical outlet. This camera is readily available in security stores or through vendors who specialize in direct selling of security equipment. Although it may be expensive, especially if you do not have a security budget for your business, or if you still have a large mortgage on your small home, you should still find a way to invest in one.

Why would a wall outlet plug cam be useful? First, it would not be in too obvious a place so that people will take great notice of it and therefore behave differently. Such a camera might accurately pick up people’s behavior when you are not around to guard or keep watch over them as a boss; they may even capture bad behavior from a nanny that you want to trust with your children! Moreover, because the camera is up against the wall, you can capture a wide angle of events. You only need to have a camera that has a wide angle lens, or that can be adjusted.

Second, a wall outlet plug cam can be conveniently transferred from wall to wall, which allows you to monitor different events at different heights. For instance, you can keep watch on your child playing on the floor; on your employees who are working at their desks; or on workers who are stacking different kinds of products on high shelves using a ladder. You only need to pick which wall outlet plug cam. Many of these cameras also have audio, so you can pick up noises that you would otherwise not have heard, such as someone taking a scolding, someone telling a secret, or someone plotting to steal from you.

Third, and last, you can use a wall outlet plug cam to record anything that might be significant if monitored over a long period of time. For instance, if you work in a plant laboratory where you can bring only a limited amount of outside goods; or if you work in a museum where you have to keep watch on artwork but cannot bring larger cameras, then a small, unwieldy wall outlet plug cam will do.

These are only a few uses for a wall outlet plug. For more information, talk to your security retailer.

Motion Detector Dialer-The Best (Non-Human) Nanny for Your Kids

Monday, August 17th, 2009

You need to be someplace else but there’s no nanny available to babysit your kids. It might seem like you’re caught between a rock and a hard place, but it doesn’t have to be so when you install a motion detector dialer at home.

Telespy Motion Sensor PhoneHow to Install a Motion Detector Dialer
Installing this device can be accomplished in a matter of minutes. First, you need to provide the required battery – this will serve as its backup power in case electricity shuts down for whatever reason. Plug in its AC adapter next and lastly, connect the phone line.

Where you install it is incredibly important as it will determine how effective your motion detector dialer can be. Consider potential entrance points of burglars, intruders, and other criminals. Installing the motion detector dialer directly on top of these areas will ensure that you’re informed of any break-in attempt immediately.

How Motion Detector Dialers Work
When motion is detected at any of the monitored areas, the motion detector dialer shall dial a preset number. Upon answering the call, the recipient will be able to listen to sounds coming from the other line. After a specified period of time, the call will be disconnected. By this time, it’s the recipient’s prerogative whether or not to call the police.

Meanwhile, the motion detector dialer will again work at monitoring the area. If motion is detected, the cycle shall be repeated.

Important Features to Look for
When shopping for motion detector dialers, look for a model possessing the features listed below.

Multiple Preset Numbers
A single preset number isn’t adequate. What if the number you’ve provided is busy, out of order, or unavailable for other reasons?

Range
Look for motion detector dialers that offer the greatest range because this will also provide the best possible protection for your children at home.

Microphone Capabilities
Be sure to check the sound quality of the device’s built-in microphone. You want to make sure that when it finds a need to dial your number, it will be able to transmit sound loud and clear.

Other Alarms
Besides dialing preset numbers, some motion detector dialers may also be programmed to send out an alarm when it’s triggered. Others will also send out an alarm if they’re running low on battery.

Security
Lastly, motion detector dialers that are protected by security codes prevent unauthorized use or programming even if their presence or location has been uncovered.

Dummy TV and Other Simple but Clever Burglar Deterrent Tricks

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

Burglars always attack the easiest targets first. They don’t take risks when they don’t have to, and they prefer breaking in to obviously empty homes rather than occupied ones because they’ll have longer time to search, steal, and they definitely have greater chances of not getting caught. If you’re going to leave your home unattended for a lengthy period of time, here are several things you can do to deter burglars from targeting your home.

fave tvUse a Dummy TV
When the television set is on, then it’s very likely that at least one person is at home. The presence of occupants is more than enough to deter most burglars. This method, while proven effective, is quite costly. Television sets consume a lot of electricity. You might find yourself surprised at how much your electricity bill for the month has gone up just because you left the TV on whenever you’re away.

A cheaper but just as effective alternative would be to use a dummy TV. More specifically, it’s a light box that produces an accurate simulation of light emitted by a TV screen. Its built-in computer ensures that the light display varies widely, just as it would with an ordinary TV set. There is no pattern to its display. After all, program producers don’t exactly allow light changes to dictate the flow of their program, do they? What happens, happens and it’s the same with the light box.

More Burglar Deterrent Tips for a Safe Home
Light boxes are just the first step to deter burglars from breaking and entering your home. Burglars can be stubborn so it won’t hurt to use other tricks to discourage them from their targeting your property.

Lights On Outside
Push away the darkness from your home by installing bright lights outdoors. If you have money to spare, consider using lights with motion detection. That’s sure to make burglars think twice about attacking your home.

Use Timer Switches for Appliances
Set different alarms for different appliances. Have them switch on and off at random times and different rooms in the house. This will paint a more realistic picture of an occupied home.

Maintain Normal Routine
Lastly, blinds, shades, and curtains must not be kept in their normal position. If you never leave them closed when you’re home then it should remain so even when you’re not. Remember: you need to paint a convincingly accurate picture of an occupied home and you can’t do that if you stray from the usual.

Magnetic Door Alarm – Keep Your Home Safe without Turning It into a Prison

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

magnet door alarmBarbed wire and electric fences are simple but effective ways to deter burglars and other wrongdoers, but they aren’t exactly easy on the eye. If you want to retain the beauty of your home but without sacrificing the safety of your loved ones, consider using magnetic door alarms.

How Magnetic Door Alarms Work
When you install a magnetic door alarm to any door in your home, it will emit a shrill sound every time the specified door is open and it will only cease ringing when the door is closed. Burglars and vandals are sure to flee your home immediately when they realize that the alarm has alerted home occupants to their presence.

Quick and Easy Installation
All you need is double stick tape and your magnetic door alarm is ready to act as your 24/7 bodyguard. Make sure, however, that the distance between the sensor and the magnetic door alarm is no greater than half an inch.

Benefits of Magnetic Door Alarms
Here are several reasons why magnetic door alarms make an ideal home security device.

Affordable
Why spend so much money on other home security devices when you can get the same result from magnetic door alarms?

User-Friendly
They are very easy to operate. It comes with a on-off switch for instant activation and deactivation.

Discreet Design
Unlike other home security devices, magnetic door alarms do not stand out like eyesores in an otherwise beautifully decorated room. They are not that much different from wall-mounted switches in terms of appearance.

When you install them on top of the door, they might as well be unnoticeable. They’ll also be out of your children’s reach, which is a good thing because they won’t be able to accidentally deactivate the alarm.

How Magnetic Door Alarms Can Help You
Besides deterring potential intruders, magnetic door alarms can also protect your loved ones – especially if you have children at home – from other dangers.

Prevent Entry through Windows
Magnetic door alarms may also be used on windows, another commonly used entry point by intruders. You can place them on top of the window and cover them partially with blinds or curtains to hide them from view.

Protect Individuals with Special Needs or Disabilities
Elderly loved ones suffering from Alzheimer’s, children with special needs, and other similar cases require constant supervision. There may be times, however, when your attention strays even for the shortest moment. Unfortunately, that’s long enough for them to go missing.

Don’t wait for this to happen. Use magnetic door alarms to alert you when your loved one attempts to leave the safety of your home.

No More Household Accidents with Bathtub Safety Grips

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Statistic reports show that there are as many as 200,000 bathroom accidents per year, and this figure is equivalent to approximately 70% of all home accidents. A simple tumble might not be something to worry about in most cases, but it could lead to serious injury when children and the elderly are involved. Even healthy individuals in their peak can suffer serious harm with a simple slip if they end up hitting their head against the wall.

safety grip handleWhy wait for any of these to come true when you can take preventive measures right now? With bathtub safety grips, you’ll be at ease knowing that you’ve given everyone a simple and thoroughly safe way to get in and out of the tub.

How to Take Maximum Advantage of Bathtub Safety Grips
As bathtub safety grips come in different sizes and forms, the tips below will help you find the perfect model for your home.

Quick and Easy Installation and Removal
This is a must for all users, whether you intend to use bathtub safety grips temporarily or permanently.

Look for bathroom safety grips that come with lockable and lever-controlled suction cups for installation. To set them up, all you need to do is find a smooth, even, and non-porous surface to attach them. They can be installed on horizontal and vertical surfaces so tiled walls of your bathroom or the sides of your bathtub are both adequate.

Pushing the lever down will attach them securely to the surface while releasing the lever will immediately disengage them. Because of their quick and easy installation, they can be brought wherever you go and installed wherever you’re staying.

Avoid purchasing shower or bathtub safety grips that require you to screw them into position. Such grips won’t be good for traveling since you risk damaging rented or leased property.

Effective and Durable Use
Consider the dimensions of bathroom safety grips. Will they easily and snugly fit the hands of your children and other people at home? Consider the maximum weight it can bear as well. The sturdiest models are built for medical use and able to handle a maximum of 250lbs.

For improved safety, look for bathroom safety grips that have raised bumps on the surface. Their uneven surface provides users with a more secure grip as they push themselves up and get out of the tub.

Last but not the least, consider using a pair of bathtub safety grips and install one on each side of the bathtub. Since it’s the safety of your loved ones at stake, it’s best to go all the way for their protection.

Using a Home Alarm System? Avoid Making These Mistakes and Keep Your Home Safe

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Yes, it comes with a user guide and the technician who helped install it probably explained the details of its proper use and operation.  However, a home alarm system can still cause some confusion in many homeowners.  Confusion that can sometimes lead to unfortunate mistakes that render the system useless, cause damage to its most critical parts or even void its warranty.  Here’s how you can avoid making mistakes in using a home alarm system of your own:

Understand what you need in a home alarm system
Overestimating or underestimating your home’s security needs is probably the first mistake that people make in using a home alarm system.  Most people just simply decide they need a security system and then go out and buy one that: a) offer the cheapest deal;   b) seems simple enough to install and use or c) so advanced that it could keep out even the whole Ocean’s Eleven gang.

The key to ensuring that you get a home alarm system that not only keeps your home safe but also gives you value is to find out first what type of security needs you have.  Your security concerns are unique, so try to consider these issues first prior to purchase and usage.

Know what you’re buying
There is nothing more perplexing than a homeowner that expects more than what his system could give.  Home alarm systems come in different designs and configurations to fit a homeowner’s unique needs.  When using a home alarm system, learn about its features and functions and find out what it can and cannot do.  Do not expect your alarm to work at 20 feet if it can only detect intrusion from 10 feet away.  Determine its strengths and vulnerabilities so you have a better understanding how it works and how to use it.

Follow instructions
There are certain limitations to each home alarm system in terms of:

- choice of location for installation
- performance in relation to certain factors such as weather and general environment
- the homeowners themselves

Although the manufacturer will probably give you tips on how to install and run the home alarm system properly, you do have to follow the instructions it came with.

Recognize a malfunction if and when it occurs
Home alarm systems can and will malfunction, usually due to wear and tear.  Check your system periodically and have it maintained by an authorized technician to ensure that it works.  Remember that a malfunction can make your system vulnerable, so it pays to be observant.

Respect your agreement with the manufacturer or security company
Another common mistake to avoid when using a home alarm system is to perform your own repairs during the warranty period.  By tinkering with the device, you effectively void the warranty it came with.

How NOT to Use a Fake TV: Mistakes You Can Avoid

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

One of the most effective ways to deter a crime is by using a gadget that imitates the functions and behavior of the real thing.  One such example is the fake TV — a tool that many homeowners rely upon to prevent burglars from finding their homes attractive.  A fake TV is designed to imitate the lights of a real TV, complete with the flickering lights and constant changing of colors.  This makes it appear that a TV is turned on and that someone is at home, effectively discouraging a possible burglary.  But when you’re only faking it, you’re sometimes vulnerable to mistakes.  Here are tips on how NOT to use a fake TV so you can keep your home safe and secure:

Do NOT keep the lights on where the fake TV is
The fake TV has a built-in sensor that triggers a switch to turn on the device when the light is low.  The efficacy of this device rests on the eventuality that the sun will go down and it will get dark.  If the lights in the room remain to illuminate the area, the sensor will not work.

Do NOT locate the TV where it could be seen (and determined fake) by a person outside the house. The point of using a fake TV is to simulate human presence or occupancy in the home.  If someone from the outside sees that the light display is from a simple device, they will know for sure that no one is at home.

Determine a good location in the house, such as a second floor room or the den where the fake device cannot readily be seen.  The light coming from it is usually powerful enough to fill the whole room, much as a real TV would.  Better yet, check the effects from outside the home in the dark.  That way, you’ll see what an outsider would see.

Store the fake TV when not in use
If you’re at home and expect visitors, unplug the fake TV and store it in a cabinet.  You don’t want a friend or guest to discover that you’re using one of these.  While you could probably trust most of your visitors, it only takes a careless mention to someone else that you are indeed using a fake TV to make your home that much more vulnerable to a burglar.  If you’ll be home for long periods of time, keep the fake TV where no one else can see it.

NEVER tell anyone you’re using a fake TV
Other than family members, you should never, ever inform anyone that you’re using a fake TV.  There’s no telling how and when word could get around that your home may not always be occupied even if it looks as if it is.  There’s just no reason why you should announce to the world that you’re only faking it.

Surveillance Cameras: Do What the Authorities Do and Protect Yourself

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

In Elizabeth City, North Carolina, authorities had begun to operate strategically located surveillance cameras as a way of deterring and apprehending crime.  Footage from the “eyes in the sky” is monitored not only from the cars of city police on patrol but also by police communication officers at the station and volunteers.  According to Police Chief Charles Crudup, the cameras had been effective not only in deterring crime but also in helping them solve several cases. City Councilwoman Volanda Watts, on the other hand, had shared how an Oak Grove resident had called to inform her about a noticeable decrease in noise as well as drug activity in her area.

Make Your Home Safe with a Surveillance Camera
As a private citizen, you may not have the right to install a similar security system for your neighborhood “you’ll have to wait for the local police for that” but you do have the right to protect your loved ones at home with surveillance cameras.

To Be or Not to Be Seen
It’s your choice whether or not to alert others to the presence of surveillance cameras you’ll install in your home. If you install it in a highly visible area, it could be enough to deter break-ins, robberies, or other crimes from taking place. But if you decide to use a covertly installed surveillance camera, you could use any resulting footage for establishing identities of criminals or delinquents that had come to threaten the safety of your loved ones.

To Be or Not to Be Connected
If your surveillance camera is connected to the Internet, you may be able to continue monitoring what’s happening in your home wherever you are.  Of course, this can only work if you’ve a remote network setup. Be aware, however, that allowing online access to your surveillance camera gives hackers greater chances of tapping into your security system and obtaining similar access to footage from your camera.
