Talking about self-defence is by itself exciting since it gives you a sense of independence. Be it kids or grown-ups, being dependant is not a pleasant situation since it brings with it a sense of helplessness too. Here is a glimpse of some of the most sought after techniques today.

Kickboxing

This exciting technique has the potential to give you the right exercise your body needs. Along with helping you build the stamina and toning your body, this technique helps you learn the art of catching your attackers unaware.

Karate

This technique is more “to the point” and direct. You have minimal moves and swings and directly attack the person trying to harm you. It develops in you an alertness that will save you from being targeted.

Jiu-Jitsu

Old techniques are extremely good, but that does not mean they are perfect by themselves. Hybrids of the techniques are also very successful and effective in helping you defend yourself. One such technique which has found many followers is Jiu-Jitsu which includes biting, choke holds striking etc.

Krav Maga

This technique is Israel’s national martial art too. It is more to do with helping you survive on the streets rather than help you go places at a professional level. This is just apt for all those who want to keep themselves safe from people who unnecessarily trouble you.

Any child will feel confident and strong if he is taught self-defence techniques, but this should be coupled with further knowledge so your children are truly benefited by learning them.

Let them know when to use it

Children who learn self-defence techniques can get carried away with the confidence it gives them and at some point, they may use the techniques to do more harm than good. So, let your children know when they should put their knowledge to use so they can be better individuals.

Help them develop the right attitude

A positive attitude will help wade through the toughest of situations, but at times, there is a need for more and that is when self-defence techniques come to play. Working on one while letting go the other will not help the child develop in the right manner.

Teach them how to manage anger

It is one think to learn self-defence techniques and another to feel provoked at the smallest issue thinking it is worth defending. Anger can cause havoc and irreparable damage in a matter of seconds. Teach your child how to tame the anger in him so that this new technique remains purely to defend against bullies.

You know that it is best to get your kids learn self-defence techniques, but where do you start from?

Let your kids accept it

Children are usually tired by the end of the day since they have excruciating schedules back at school. If they have to have stamina for yet another class, it should be their enthusiasm that will feed them with it. Start by getting your kid enthused with the idea of learning this new art.

Start it small

Yes, you want your child to make it big, be it studies or his hobbies. Don’t pressurize him too much when you enrol him in the self-defence technique classes. Let him take it at his own pace, just back him up with the right words and attitude.

Give him the best instructor

A good instructor can be an inspiration to your child. Be it studies or hobbies, being self-disciplined and committed goes a long way in contributing to the success. This kind of discipline is learnt when the instructor shows it in his behaviour. Take time off for finding the right people to train your kids and consider your job well done since his training will surely be a success.

A lot can be said about how vulnerable children are today, owing to the increasing turmoil and insecure atmosphere. It is best to teach children the self defense techniques once they can comprehend the need to defend themselves. They should also be able to understand that these techniques are to be used only in certain situations.

There are many forms of martial arts and not all of them involve the use of weapons. There are methods children can use while resisting the attempts of abductors. These specific moves can be taught to them even when they are perfecting themselves at the art by learning it step by step.

Protective parents often tend to find an escort for their children everywhere they go, but the question is how far will this help. True protection lies in empowering them to defend themselves so that you will not have to worry much even when they are left on their own.

There are many videos on the internet that will give the simple techniques that the children can start off from. They can pick up the moves from these videos and get confident in their day to day lives.

After a great debate, you have finally decided to give your child the education on self defense, but which technique would suit him best? You must remember to decide this on his comfort level.

Not too tiring

No matter which technique you select, make sure it is not too rigorous on your child. If he finds it too tiring, he may feel too tempted to avoid the classes. Make the learning experience enjoyable for him and also let him know it is important that he gets the right knowledge for his own sake.

Consider the Access

Travelling long distances will be a major put off, especially for a child who has attended the school for the whole day! Make life simple for him and enroll him in a class you know nearby rather than take him to the best classes that are miles away.

Peer group matters

Children pick up skills easily when they have the peer group they are comfortable with. If you know that your child’s friends have enrolled in a class to learn self defense skills, it may be best to enroll him in the same class and combine fun with learning.

You want your children to be independent in almost every way, then why hesitate giving them the self defense techniques training and secure his future? This is an aspect that many parents tend to ignore, but it is only at a later stage that we will decide how important this is.

Self defense techniques can be picked up from a very young age. The earlier you help your child develop these skills, the greater will be their confidence levels. You have to make sure you do not give them room to feel insecure in tomorrow’s world and this is one major step in that direction.

Many parents tend to think that self defense is all about using weapons and will have adverse affect on the children, but in reality this is a technique that will have a positive influence on your children if you let them know when to put these techniques to use. You also must know that self defense does not always mean use of harmful weapons and unnecessary fights. It is just a way to keep yourself away from troubles that could otherwise cause havoc in your life.

There are a number of different techniques that will be helpful for children. The videos and resources online will help you know each of them and also make an easy choice.

Having children in the house is probably the best part of one’s life; however, with the entry of children into our lives, there comes a whole load of responsibilities which include caring for the health and safety of the little ones. We not only have to protect ourselves, but even our children from unscrupulous elements. However, while it may sound simple to keep danger at bay, with children around, this task is easier said than done. In order to ensure your child is protected and secure at all times, even when he/she is alone at home, there are some key tips that you need to keep in mind.

First of all, little children should never be left unattended. Even if you have to purchase something that is essential, you can either choose to take the child along with you or wait for a family member to come home so you can leave the child with them and head out to make the purchase.

As the child grows, there are times you may have to leave him/her alone to run some important errands. In such cases, it is important that you let the children know in clear terms that they should never open the door to any stranger or family member who arrives without prior information. In case they answer the telephone, tell them not to tell the caller that they are alone at home. Ensure you switch on the burglar alarms before you leave home, even if your child in at home so the neighbors can be notified in case of break-ins.

Decided on undergoing some training in self defense? The next obvious question is where to begin from. Yes, there are a number of self defense techniques and almost all seem right. So where do you start off when you want to?

The easiest way to decide on this is to find out the best tutor you have access to. If you are not particular about any particular form of self defense technique, then learning from the best minds will be the guiding light for you.

Select a tutor you have heard of and is not staying too far so you may save on commuting time. You must also check out the charges and be convinced that it is reasonable. If you have to stretch too much, you can be sure that you will find less motivation in attending the classes.

Once you have decided on the technique, it is also best to watch demos before you start off. By watching the demos, you are mentally and physically prepared to accept challenges that come your way. Ideally, the live demos will do a good job in preparing you, but if you are constrained for time, catch up on some videos online to get an idea.

So, go ahead, give the training your best shot!

We hardly have time for our daily chores, then why would we want to spend time on any overheads? This is exactly why many are uninterested in learning self defense techniques. But have you given a thought on how helpful these could be?

Good workout

In today’s world, your appearance speaks a lot; sometimes it even modifies your career path. When such is the case, learning self defense techniques will give you a good workout and burn out all the extra calories that add to your flab. It will surely “glam” up your image in just a few days!

More confidence

If you have to stand out from the rest, there has to be something that sets you apart. Self defense will not just give you an edge over the others as an art form that you know, but will also make you bolder from within. The fact that you do not have to depend on others to take care of you will give you a bold attitude making you a more confident person.

Beat the complex

Gone are the days when gender mattered, but all said and done, there is an impression that females are a weaker sex and need to be protected. This will create a complex and stop you from making bold choices in your career. If you want to beat the complex, just jump into the ring and train yourself hard with the self defense techniques.
