Don’t Tase Me, Bro! II

The video is in!

About a month ago, I was at a self defense conference for those of us that sell Tasers and other security products.

There was a police officer there giving a class and demonstration on the use of the Taser. Very enlightening!

The call came and I volunteered!

As promised, here is the video from that day.

In my previous email, Ed asked for my height and weight to give perspective when it was ready. I am 5′ 8″ and weigh about 160-165.

Wow you really got red there Steve. Way to take the shock man I am proud of you!

  2. Fred Says:

You walked away. So me I think I’d still rather have the 9mm hand gun, with a full clip, or better yet two. But the Taser is a nifty device. And I’m all for our 2A right to defend ourselves… so either the Taser or the hand gun is fine with me – but again, for me, I’d much prefer the gun.

  3. Ed Butka Says:

What am I not getting? I thought the whole idea of a taser is to shoot someone at a distance so they would drop in an incapacitated manner?

In this video the Taser shock…

    1) Was held in contact with you. In other words, it looked more like a stun gun approach.

    2) I thought you would be incapacitated for a while, but you were easily able to move around after being stunned.

Either I am under some misconception as to the power impact of the weapon or it significantly underperformed.

  4. admin Says:

Ed, the Taser was not held in contact. The officer holding the Taser was several feet away.

After the Taser is turned off, then you are able to easily recover. Only when the Taser is employed does it incapacitate you.

Believe me, the Taser performed perfectly.

  5. Christy Says:

WOW, I was going to get one of these, but now I don’t really think they work that good. I also thought you would be incapacitated for a while after.

  6. admin Says:

That’s part of the appeal of Tasers. They do not permanently harm or incapacitate someone. They do however, stop a person immediately from doing anything else.

  7. Lee Says:

Gee, I thought the same thing. I figured you would be laid out on the floor. A stungun as performed on others put htem on the ground as their legs gave out.
Not the same we use on the dept.

  8. admin Says:

Most of the others that got Tased did have their knees buckle under or yelled to have the officer stop.

  9. Gerry Dowd Says:

Like an afore mentioned comment, I really thought that it would at least bring you down to your knees. I also thought that it would act like a stun gun and cause you some disorientation for a couple of minutes.
Me personally, I tase somebody, I want them to go down for the count and not recover quickly. Isn’t that the whole idea. To stop the assailant, not just piss him off even more.

  10. admin Says:

When I was tased, I couldn’t move. I was just enduring, waiting for it to be over. No, I didn’t go to my knees, but I couldn’t do anything else either. That’s the point, it prevents you from do anything.

In actual use, you would employ the Taser and then set it down while you get away. The person getting tased will get shocked for a full 30 seconds while you make your escape. I only got it for 8 seconds during the test/demonstration.

8 seconds was plenty enough to know without a doubt that this device is effective.

  11. wolf Says:

nice steve you owned them im very proud of you!!!

  12. admin Says:

Updated the video to include more of the taser footage. You can see more people on the receiving end of the demonstration.

Nice video. Better than caffeine eh!?! Any info on the effects to persons having surgical metal implants in their body? I notice you give your approx. height and weight. Always thaought you were taller. ;0) Is there a difference in reaction to being tased in relation to the physical size of the subject? Seems that the bigger subjects in the extended video, both male and female, were the ones that made greater haste in crying “no mas”. I’m also curious as to how the sensation compares to a 625K stun gun. That’s the largest device I’ve ever tried on myself. And BTW Merry Christmas Bro!!!

  14. admin Says:

Greg, I’m not aware of any consideration for metal implants nor on the size of the individual. We all knew it was coming; I think that some didn’t think it would be as bad as it really is. Where a stun gun is localized, the taser device overpowers your entire body.

    Merry Christmas!

  15. Words Twice Says:

The TASER is a very poor self defense tool. It is a device intended to allow law enforcement to subdue someone and take them into custody without having to club them into submission. Unless your self defense plan involves taking a prisoner, you are better off with something else.

  16. Tammy Says:

Great article. What some people don’t understand about a TASER from the video, is that you are not being hit with the full 30 seconds the TASER will give someone if used the right way. The C2 locks up all your muscles and you just can’t move the whole time it is dumping the 50,000 volts into your muscles and disrupts all the signals that the the brain send to them. TASER has it down packed with there line of Electronic control devices and I stand behind them with their products.

  17. Curious George Says:

    Admin or Tammy,

I’m a bit confused. If Tasers automatically (e.g. you can drop the device and escape) deliver 30 seconds of paralyzing shock, how did the officer stop the Taser after just a few seconds for each of these participants?

  18. admin Says:

Curious George, you can turn off the Taser device just as easily as turning it on. If you don’t want or need the whole 30 seconds, you don’t have to leave it on.

  19. Curious George Says:

Thanks, Admin. Let me clarify my statement a bit. I own a five year old Taser X26C. As soon as I let go of the trigger, will the paralyzing shock stop? If yes, then I can’t really use that as a way to escape the situation.

I can test this on myself, but if you already know, it would save me the cost of the cartridge…

    :)
